CASA de Maryland Synopsis: CASA de Maryland’s primary mission is to work with the community to improve the quality of life and fight for equal treatment and fu! ll access to resources and opportunities for low-income Latinos and their families. CASA works with other low-income immigrant communities, makes its programs and activities available to them, and joins with other organizations to advocate for social, political, and economic justice for all low-income communities.

Department Synopsis: The Health and Human Services Department responds to the needs of low-income Latinos and other immigrants and their families, utilizing service provision models that promote building the power of the immigrant community. This includes community education to prevent problems and build on community interest and assets, and working to impact trends that negatively affect low-income Latinos and other immigrants. The HHS Department includes The Health Promotion and Community Access, Social Services and Legal Programs.

Position Synopsis: The Legal Program Coordinator is expected to function as a legal problem solver, ! independently solving problems, following up on cases and comm! unicating results and recommendations to staff attorneys and supervisor. The Legal Program Coordinator also provides administrative support to the legal program.

Department / Program: Services / Legal

Classification: Temporary Employee Not to Exceed 4 months, Full Time Exempt position

CASA Site: Based in MCC and assisting all CASA centers, it may change according to CASA needs.

Direct Supervisor: Senior Manager, Legal Program

Salary: $1,360 bi-weekly.

Duties/ Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, some of the following which are discussed and prioritized by the employee and supervisor, and reflected in individual and program annual workplans: • Perform client follow up on legal cases related to CASA’s Deferred Action Member Assistance Program referred by supervisor and/or staff attorneys • Solve problems presented by CASA members and others identi! fied by the organization as high-priority or urgent • Provide comprehensive problem solving services, including information, and referrals to legal and social service agencies and private firms. • Cultivate relationships and develop a network of agencies that can solve problems in one or more assigned areas of expertise. • Serve as a liaison between CASA and assigned agencies • Knowledge of legal ethics rules, including the boundary between legal assistance and legal advice, and consistent adherence to those rules • Maintain documentation of all client contact and service provision • Provide general information to community and county providers. • Support CASA’s power building activities • Compile monthly reports with statistics and written narrative explanations of activities and results. • Support the development and expansion of the membership program. • Meet deadlines established by supervisor and in Department and individual workplan. • Collabor! ate with other CASA Departments and programs to ensure that high qualit! y services are being delivered to ensure that members enjoy an excellent experience with CASA such that they can contribute to building the power of the immigrant community. In particular, CASA expects services and organizing to be delivered in an integrated way. (For Services and Center only) • Think creatively about ways to improve further his/her specific job and CASA as an organization. • And other duties assigned by supervisor related to position. Qualifications: • Ability to perform all of the duties outlined above. • Deep commitment to social change and to growing CASA as a membership organization in which members have decision-making authority. • Excellent writing and speaking skills. • Minimum of two years experience in administrative support or legal field • Strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills. • Bilingual English/Spanish, French is a plus. • Knowledge of resources for information and referral in area. â! €¢ Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel and other databases, and willingness to learn other needed computer programs. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Highly organized and able to manage multiple ongoing projects. • Quick learner and possess the ability to prioritize in stressful situations. • Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle changing situations and walk-in and phone requests. • Experience working with immigrant or low-income communities.
