Job Summary:
The AAI Corporation (“AAI”) Manager of Export Compliance, under the direction of the Textron Systems Manager of Export Compliance and the Textron Systems Director of Import and Export Compliance, and as an integral member of the Textron Systems (TS) Legal, Contracts & Compliance Department, shall proactively oversee all export compliance ma! tters for AAI and its subsidiaries. The AAI Manager of Export Compliance will work both independently and with other members of the department to facilitate, authorize, assess, and ensure compliance with company policies, and import/export laws and regulations.


  • For all aspects of export compliance across AAI and lead/drive the implementation of export compliance systems (particularly international Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Serve as an Empowered Official and designated point of contact on import and export matters for AAI.
  • Coordinate as necessary with personnel at TS, Textron’s Washington Office, the Department of State/Commerce and Customer entities to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance with company policies/procedures and export laws and regulations.
  • Manage, mentor, and train team of AAI trade compliance professionals and establish ! priorities, set goals and monitor progress within the group to! ensure management objectives are properly and timely supported.
  • Lead and oversee export licensing activities related to the manufacturing and the overhaul & repair businesses; provide export determinations and authorizations (e.g. licenses, permits, exemptions, exceptions, etc.), prepare, submit, track, and monitor requisite applications.
  • Provide export compliance risk advice to senior management.
  • Provide support, oversight and direction to AAI on compliance with customs laws, regulations, interpretations and policies as applicable to business requirements involving the importation of products.
  • Interact with other functional areas (i.e., Business Development, Program Management, Engineering and Contracts) to develop licensing strategies and documents (such as Technical Assistance Agreements (TAA) and Manufacturing Licensing Agreements (MLA)).
  • Attend various Business Development and Program Management meetings to ensure required ! Government approvals support business and program objectives and schedules.
  • Develop import and export strategies to meet future import and/or export requirements.
  • Prepare, implement, enhance, and maintain AAI’s export compliance policies, procedures, work instructions, policy statements, and implementing forms to ensure compliance with government laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that all files are current, complete and fully documented and in compliance with federal law and regulations as well as company policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct or support internal/external audits and investigations, prepare audit reports, corrective action plans, and appropriate disclosures as required; work in collaboration with in-house attorneys and outside counsel to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop, plan, and conduct import/export compliance training for AAI employees, management, and program teams.
  • Participate! in a variety of interesting international trade compliance matters and! perform other import/export related duties as assigned.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned by management.

Position Requirements:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited nationally recognized university required (emphasis on international trade management, international business, MBA or law a plus).

  • Ten plus years of export compliance and international trade experience with progressively more complex responsibilities.
  • Extensive working knowledge of import/export-related laws and regulations.
  • Experience in defense and aerospace industries is strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills, problem solving abilities, good judgment, and the proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management are required.
  • Must be goal oriented and capable of working independently.
  • Must ha! ve excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, leadership, mentoring, and writing skills.
  • Computer literacy and a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software, specifically Excel and Word are required.
  • Must have the ability to successfully manage a broad range of responsibilities in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment and an ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
